This page contains a variety of things to do and see on Evia.

From Nea Styra it is relatively easy to visit other parts of the island but remember this is Greece's second largest island over 200 miles from top to bottom. The island has two main mountains, Ochi and Derfus. It is on the latter that skiing takes place in winter. Both have walking tracks. The Northern tip is the area where thermal springs and spas can be found. Apart from the ferries to the mainland from the north they go to the Pelion peninsular and from Kimi to Skiros. So after exploring this beautiful island one can go island hopping.

To the north of Nea Styra are quieter beaches including the sandy strips that comprise Dilhso where The Flower House is situated. The clear waters make this an ideal area for snorkelling and observing the myriad marine species that thrive in these waters.

The picturesque beaches on the Aegean side of the island are only 10 minutes drive from Nea Styra. These beaches are more shingly but prettier in that they are coves. The beaches are deeper with rocky cliffs and caves to the sides. Mesochoria is a particular favourite with its excellent tavernas.

Further north on the Aegean coast towards the port of Kimi are very long shingly beaches with bigger waves and pebbles under foot.
Amarynthos is a delightful seaside village, on the main road to Halkida, with a lively square that is filled with tables where one can enjoy the local delicacy of sun-dried octopus.
Karystos is the nearest sizeable town. This is a leisurely (if slightly hairy) hours drive south from Nea Styra with fabulous panoramic views. The town itself is a busy port for larger vessels. The harbour side is backed with cafes and tavernas. Here there are three historical remains. The Red Castle which is set up on the hillside overlooking the town, The Fort at the far end of the harbour and Apollo's temple. These are in order of interest. Apollo's temple is easy to miss as it is just a small square of scrub in the centre of town with a faded plaque endeavouring to inform what the temple originally looked like.
Halkida the capital has a bridge to the main land and a lively harbour side. There are loads of cafes down by the water. The town has plenty of shops but like all larger conurbations it does have scruffy parts and the road signs leave a lot to be desired.
